Mum the river singing, humming
"We'll keep the vultures dying"
The afternoon bread's left crumbs in our beds.

Jillian within the forest
Struck a stone and broke her poor wrist
Buried in the ground the lame appendage
And became a tree of bended branches
The garden of leaves we built from our knees.

And we sang the howling chorus
Fires came then flood to the forest
The vultures cried and flew above us.
